Drill Baby Drill, for Dummies

Anyone who thinks they can drill themselves out of our economic and energy problems needs some basic math lessons.

America burns through about 20 million barrels of oil a day alone. The world burns through more than 80 million barrels per day - and climbing.

ANWR, for example represents 10 billion barrels. 10 billion divided by 20 million = 500. 500 days worth of oil. That isn't subtracting the costs involved to extract it. If McCain forms a socialist company to extract the oil then America enjoys 1.5 years worth of oil. If the usual suspects extract that oil then they are free to sell it on the world market the oil will be used up in just a few months - probably by the Chinese.

The oil is gone people. You can continue scrambling around on the floor snorting up the last of it with McCain/Palin, or you can wake up and get with the plan. McCain is being disingenuous with republicans when he encourages this "drill baby drill" nonsense, yet this is his #1 Energy policy.

Obama has spent considerable time detailing his goals of comprehensive energy reform in America. He wants to invest $150 billion over 10 years to develop new energy sources. This is your only option unless you want to be Russia's pet.

Obama aims to put 1 million Plug-In Hybrid cars on our roads - cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon, cars that will be built here in America.

Sarah's first steps.

A lot of republicans are trying to stick up for Sarah Palin, saying Charlie was biased, he tried to trap her, etc. Do you think her job will go easy on her? Do you think Putin is going to be empathetic to our favorite hockey mom? No. The answer is simply No. She is largely untested and this is her opportunity to prove herself to the American people and Republicans. Success or Fail, we all benefit by challenging her now, not later.

With the Charlie Gibson she stumbled a few times, scraped a few knees, perhaps embarrassed a few republicans. What could we expect. McCain the Maverick decided he wanted Sarah - as republicans we have to put faith in this decision, pray that is god's plan and let Sarah wonder out of Alaska into the real world... a world full of nasty, baby killing democrats.

Walk softly, carry a big stick.

A complaint I've had with the Bush administration so far has been their ridiculous attempts at "bluster". Their "tough talk", if you will. America is an awesome country - there is no doubt. We have the best military in the world, we're a nation of innovators, we're hard working. We proved all this in World War 2.

Now a man confident in his strength doesn't have to go around showing it off. A country confident in its strength doesn't employ false bravado. In fact it would be irresponsible.

For this reason Obama caught my attention in his interview with Bill O'Reilly when he stated:

Listen, it is not appropriate for somebody who is one of two people who could be the president of the united states to start tipping their hand in respect to Iran.

Bush, McCain, Palin should take note of this. Overestimating ourselves, underestimating our enemies... is fatal mistake. McCain has joked about bombing Iran, he has made light of suicide bombers.

You'd think an ex POW would be more respectful of war.
